Needles and pins
We are a very friendly group, so there is lots of chatter and laughter while knitting, drinking tea and coffee and eating biscuits.
Bring along your own project to do and if you need help, there is always someone willing to assist or teach new things for knitting, crochet, cross stitch, embroidery etc.
The emphasis is on having fun, socialising whilst enjoying our hobbies.
We try to have a few workshops each year, e.g. Dorset buttons, Christmas decorations and we have special events.
Some of us make things for charities, such as blankets/hats and mittens for neo-natal wards or twiddlemuffs for dementia patients. We also do knitted toys for the shoeboxes sent to deprived children. If you want to get involved, then you can use the time to produce items.
Needles and Pins 1 is currently waitlisted but there are spaces in the Needles and Pins 2 group.
Our project with the Vyne to celebrate Jane Austen's 250th anniversary is proving to be a great success. We have been liaising with the National Trust to create the centrepiece of their Jane Austen display at the Vyne. This involved producing hundreds of leaves, flowers, insects and small animals, plus cross-stitch cameos of characters from six of the books. The calligraphy group leader produced the sign and Linda Gosby sewed the base material. Five of us spent four hours at the Vyne assembling our creation and it looks fantastic. Importantly, the staff at the Vyne are delighted too.
It has been a real collaboration between the groups and showcases the talent of our members. Photos of the work can be viewed here and here.
